  • 1. Initial Patient Assessment When patients first contact us, we request specific information to provide a preliminary assessment remotely if they are unable to visit our clinic immediately.
  • 2. Required Information We require the patient’s height, weight, age, history of childbirth (if applicable), and photographs of the target area taken from multiple angles.
  • 3. Medical Evaluation Dr. Ali Mezdeği personally reviews the photographs and medical data provided. He determines the feasibility of the procedure and explains the most appropriate surgical technique to be used.
  • 4. Scheduling Upon mutual agreement with the patient, we schedule either a direct hospital appointment or a pre-operative physical consultation at our clinic.
  • 5. Financial Agreement & Preparation Once the financial details are settled, the surgery date is confirmed. The patient is then provided with pre-operative instructions to follow before arriving at the hospital.
  • 6. Pre-Surgical Examination & Marking Dr. Ali Mezdeği performs a physical examination before the surgery to answer all questions. He explains the expected outcomes and completes the surgical drawings and markings on the areas where liposuction will be performed.
  • 7. Pre-Operative Testing Blood samples are drawn, and all necessary medical tests are conducted. An anesthesiologist also examines the patient to confirm they are fit for surgery.
  • 8. The Surgical Procedure The surgery typically lasts approximately 2 hours. This duration may vary depending on the size and number of areas being treated.
  • 9. Post-Operative Care & Hospital Stay After surgery, the patient is moved to a private room under the supervision of hospital nurses. A one-night hospital stay is required following liposuction.
  • 10. Medication & Accompaniment It is recommended that the patient has a companion during this time. Pain management and medication protocols are determined by Dr. Ali Mezdeği and administered by the hospital staff.
  • 11. Discharge Process The following day, Dr. Ali Mezdeği performs a check-up. If there are no complications, the patient is discharged from the hospital.
  • 12. Recovery Guidelines A compression garment must be worn for approximately 2–3 weeks, depending on the treated area. Detailed instructions regarding garment usage and when to take the first shower are provided to the patient.
  • 13. First Follow-Up Visit If recovery proceeds normally, Dr. Ali Mezdeği examines the patient at the clinic 3–4 days after the surgery. Based on progress, the duration of corset usage or medication may be adjusted.
  • 14. Long-Term Monitoring Follow-up appointments are scheduled for the 1st, 3rd, and 6th months. During this period, patients can instantly contact their designated assistant regarding any questions or concerns.

Important Note: The post-operative recovery process is just as critical as the surgery itself. Please remember that you can reach out to your patient assistant immediately for even the slightest concern.

Step-by-Step Liposuction Procedure

How is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction Surgery is performed under general anesthesia and must be conducted in a fully equipped hospital. The duration of the surgery varies between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. This procedure does not carry a life-threatening risk. It is performed purely for aesthetic purposes; it is not a medical necessity or a treatment for disease. The procedure can be applied regionally, and fat aspiration is performed according to the physical condition of that specific area.

Liposuction Recovery Timeline

Day 1: Immediate Post-Op As the effect of the anesthesia wears off, drowsiness and some pain may be felt. It is very normal to observe numbness, swelling (edema), and bruising in the operated area. A compression garment and small dressings are applied to protect tissue integrity and prevent fluid accumulation. Rest is crucial during this period; assistance from a companion at home is strictly required.

Days 2–3: Early Recovery Moderate discomfort and fatigue may be experienced; however, this can be managed with prescribed painkillers. Swelling and bruising may show an initial increase before subsiding. Gentle movements, such as light walking, help increase blood circulation and prevent blood clot formation. Adherence to the compression garment usage and post-operative instructions reduces the risk of complications.

Days 4–7: First Week Energy levels rise, and pain decreases. Swelling, bruising, and minor drainage associated with dressings improve gradually. Light walks may begin based on the doctor’s recommendation. It is important to continue using the compression garment during this phase.

Weeks 2–3: Returning to Routine A significant reduction in swelling and bruising is observed. Many patients can return to light daily activities during this period. Physical activities that are not strenuous are generally permitted; however, forceful movements must still be avoided. Depending on the remaining swelling and the doctor’s decision, some patients may discontinue the use of the compression garment.

Weeks 4–6: Advanced Recovery Patients feel much more comfortable. Swelling has largely subsided, and body contours have begun to take shape. By the 6th week, most patients can return to their daily routines and engage in strenuous sports or exercises with doctor approval. However, care should be taken not to overexert the body immediately.

6 Months and Beyond: Final Results By the sixth month, patients are typically fully recovered. Any residual swelling or hardness (induration) generally disappears completely, making the body contours clearer and smoother. To ensure permanent results, it is essential to maintain a stable weight and sustain healthy lifestyle habits.

Risks of Liposuction Surgery

Possible risks include bleeding, infection, allergic reactions, seroma (fluid accumulation), unexpected bruising or swelling, and risks associated with anesthesia.

360 Liposuction Surgery in Turkey

This is a fat removal procedure performed on both the front and back of the body to ensure body symmetry and achieve a more aesthetic appearance. In other words, simultaneously removing fat from areas such as the abdomen, back, and the front and back of the legs is called “360-degree liposuction.”

360-degree liposuction prices are generally more cost-effective compared to performing these procedures separately. Since it is completed in a single session, the overall cost is lower, and the results are typically more satisfying.

360 Liposuction Price in Turkey

The procedure includes contouring of the anterior abdominal wall, flanks (love handles), and the back region. It is more expensive than single-area liposuction. We kindly ask you to contact us via WhatsApp for a precise 360 liposuction price, as it varies from patient to patient. Costs may change depending on your weight, age, and fat tissue accumulation.

360 Liposuction and Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Liposuction is an indispensable component of tummy tuck surgeries. Anterior liposuction is performed to correct the area and remove excess fat. Once the tissue is cleared of fat, the remaining sagging skin is excised. Additionally, liposuction is necessary for fine body contouring. The technique used may vary; in cases requiring precise, high-definition sculpting, the Vaser Liposuction technique is preferred.

Non-Surgical Fat Removal

This procedure is typically performed in a clinical setting without general anesthesia, using only local anesthesia to numb the area. We strictly do not recommend this. If complications arise, you need to be in a fully equipped hospital. Liposuction is a serious surgical operation with inherent risks. Furthermore, removing excessive fat from the body solely for weight loss purposes is not medically appropriate. Please do not request this from your doctor. Also, remember that physicians who accede to such requests are taking significant risks.

Liposuction for Men in Turkey

Men generally seek procedures for the abdomen, waist, and chest areas. Often, several of these areas are treated simultaneously. Common areas for male fat removal include:

  • Anterior abdominal wall
  • Flanks (Love Handles)
  • Back region
  • Under the chin (Submental area)
  • Chest region
  • Hips and Pubic area

Male Liposuction Prices in Turkey

Compared to women, the male body is more fibrous. Men have thicker and denser fat tissues. In short, the surgery requires more precision and physical effort. However, despite this extra difficulty, male liposuction prices are not necessarily more expensive. The doctor absorbs this challenge through manual experience and expertise. We ask you to contact us via WhatsApp for specific male liposuction fees, as the price varies based on certain criteria and the number of areas to be treated.

Male Chest Liposuction in Turkey (Gynecomastia)

Fat accumulation in the male chest is mostly due to gynecomastia. When performing gynecomastia surgery, we utilize the 3D Gynecomastia Surgery technique. This technique involves performing liposuction on the entire chest wall, extending up to the underarms (axilla). This not only clears the rib cage of excess fat but also sculpts the entire chest, resulting in a more athletic appearance. This is how liposuction is utilized in men. If only standard liposuction is performed on a patient with true gynecomastia (glandular tissue), results will not be achieved or will be unsatisfactory.

Male Double Chin Liposuction in Turkey (Neck Lipo)

Genetically, a man may have fat deposits under the chin even if he is not overweight. This is often hereditary. Fat removal is performed using fine cannulas, leaving no scars. Since male skin is thicker, there is typically less bruising and swelling compared to women. This means a faster recovery for men after chin liposuction.

Our Goal: To define the jawline and sharpen the angle between the neck and chin, giving the face a characteristic and dynamic expression.

Male Pubic Area Fat Removal (Mons Pubis Liposuction)

Men often hesitate to discuss this topic, but it is a surgery with very high patient satisfaction rates post-operation. Excessive fat in the pubic (groin) area buries the base of the penis, causing it to appear shorter than it actually is (Buried Penis Syndrome).

Goal: To flatten the area and reveal the buried base of the penis. This procedure provides a visible elongation (optical lengthening) of the penis and significantly increases the patient’s sexual self-confidence. It also provides comfort regarding hygiene.

Recovery: It is a painless process. Patients can return to normal life the very next day. Short-term use of a compression garment or tight underwear is sufficient.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is also known as “lipoplasty,” “liposculpture,” or simply “lipo.” Generally, it extracts fatty tissues and accumulated fat deposits. Any excess tissue or skin accumulation remaining in the treated area is surgically corrected.

Liposuction Surgery is not a weight-loss procedure. Many patients hope to lose weight and appear thinner or fitter through Liposuction Surgery. However, this surgery is not a slimming process; rather, it is the surgical evacuation of stubborn fats that remain visible or do not disappear despite weight loss and exercise.

Benefits of Liposuction Surgery

  • Body Contouring: Improving and defining body lines.
  • Enhanced Self-Esteem: Boosting self-confidence and body image.
  • Better Fitting Clothes: Allowing clothing to fit more comfortably and attractively.
  • Rapid Results: Visible improvements are often seen quickly.
  • Improved Physical Health: associated with the removal of excess fat.
  • Relatively Short Recovery Time: Compared to more invasive surgeries.
  • Permanent Results: Fat cells are permanently removed (provided weight is maintained).
  • A More Youthful Appearance: Restoring a tighter, more youthful shape.
  • Reduction of Physical Discomfort: Alleviating issues like chafing in certain areas.
  • Increased Motivation: Encouraging a healthier lifestyle to maintain results.

Breast Fat Removal in Turkey

(Chest Liposuction)

This is an aesthetic surgical procedure typically performed using the liposuction method. It is applied to ensure that breasts, which have enlarged or sagged primarily due to excess fat tissue, achieve a more contoured and aesthetic appearance. Preferred by both men and women, this method is widely used in gynecomastia treatment and breast reduction surgeries.

How is Breast Fat Removal Performed?

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. During the operation, the surgeon extracts the excess fat tissue via a vacuum method using fine cannulas. This thins the chest area and provides a more natural look. In cases where liposuction alone is insufficient, excess skin or glandular tissue may also be surgically excised.

Breast Fat Removal Prices

The cost is generally lower for procedures involving liposuction alone. However, the price may vary depending on the size and volume of the breast. You can get immediate information regarding breast fat removal prices by contacting us via our WhatsApp lines.

Who is a Suitable Candidate?

  • Men suffering from Gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts).
  • Women complaining of excess fat in the breast area.
  • Individuals who wish to reduce breast size without surgical incisions or major scarring.

High Definition Liposuction in Turkey (HD Lipo)

Do your muscle lines remain undefined despite adhering to a strict diet and regular exercise routine? This is exactly where High Definition Liposuction comes into play. This method does not merely remove fat; it reveals muscle definition, giving your body a more athletic and fit appearance.

Why Choose HD Lipo?

  • Eliminates Stubborn Fat: Targets fat deposits that do not disappear with sports.
  • Enhanced Muscle Definition: Makes abdominal muscles (six-pack), chest (pectorals), and back lines significantly clearer.
  • Balanced Proportions: Provides a proportional appearance by balancing body contours.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Results can be maintained for a long time when accompanied by a healthy lifestyle.

Who is a Suitable Candidate?

  • Individuals who exercise regularly but cannot achieve their desired physical form.
  • Those complaining of localized fat excess.
  • People wanting to achieve a fitter, more dynamic, and muscular appearance.

Precise Touches with Minilipo (Mini Liposuction)

Minilipo is preferred for smaller, more delicate areas. It is ideal for patients seeking sharper definition in specific areas such as under the chin (submental area), the waist curve, or around the knees. Since it is performed using fine cannulas, the recovery time is quite rapid.

In summary, thanks to High Definition Liposuction and Minilipo, achieving that fit appearance—which is often difficult to attain through sports alone—is now much more accessible.

Liposuction Revision in Turkey

(Corrective Liposuction)

The results of a primary liposuction procedure may not always meet expectations. Liposuction revision, also referred to as corrective liposuction or secondary liposuction, is a remedial surgical procedure performed to address incomplete or flawed results from a previous operation.

Why is it Needed?

  • Occurrence of skin irregularities, indentations (dents), or waviness (contour deformities).
  • Excessive or insufficient fat removal (over-resection or under-resection).
  • Asymmetrical appearance of body contours.
  • Issues arising during the healing process (e.g., fibrosis or scarring).

How is it Performed?

  • Fat Injection (Lipofilling): Used to restore volume and correct contours in areas where too much fat was previously removed.
  • Re-Liposuction: Performed to remove remaining excess fat from areas where insufficient fat was taken during the first surgery.
  • If necessary, both methods are combined to achieve a smoother and more aesthetic result.

Who is a Suitable Candidate?

  • Individuals unhappy with the appearance after their initial liposuction.
  • Those experiencing waviness, dents, or asymmetry on their body.
  • People seeking more balanced and natural body lines.

In summary, thanks to Liposuction Revision, the negative effects of a previous operation can be eliminated, resulting in a more aesthetic, smooth, and harmonious outcome.

Postpartum Liposuction

Mommy Makeover (Maternity Aesthetics)

Pregnancy and childbirth lead to inevitable changes in the female body. While fat accumulation increases in the abdomen, waist, hips, and leg areas, skin loosening and sagging may also occur. Postpartum liposuction is one of the most effective methods preferred by mothers to regain a fitter and more aesthetic appearance during this period.

Is Liposuction Better Before or After Pregnancy?

  • Pre-Pregnancy: Liposuction performed before pregnancy provides an aesthetic appearance; however, the results can change significantly due to weight gained during the pregnancy process.
  • Postpartum (After Childbirth): The most ideal time is the period following childbirth. Liposuction performed after the breastfeeding process is complete and the body has hormonally balanced yields more permanent and satisfying results.

Does Liposuction Completely Eliminate Sagging?

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells and provides localized thinning.

However, if there is excessive skin laxity or sagging, liposuction alone may not be sufficient. In such cases, surgeries like Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) are performed in combination with liposuction to achieve a tighter and more aesthetic result.

In other words, liposuction does not completely eliminate sagging; but when combined with a tummy tuck, it provides an effective “Mommy Makeover” result.

Who is a Suitable Candidate?

  • Mothers complaining of postpartum localized fat.
  • Those with areas that do not slim down despite diet and exercise.
  • Individuals with good skin elasticity who do not have excessive sagging.

In Summary: Postpartum liposuction allows mothers to regain their lost body contours. However, if there is significant skin sagging and loosening, liposuction alone may not be enough; more effective results are obtained when combined with other operations such as a tummy tuck.

Love Handle Liposuction in Turkey

(Flank Liposuction)

Even if a patient loses weight, fat accumulation in the love handles (flanks) may persist. This is because the fat tissue in the flank region is rich in alpha-2 receptors. These receptors act as a mechanism that blocks fat burning. Therefore, stubborn fat in the love handles may remain regardless of how much diet and exercise you perform.

Therefore, the permanent solution is surgery. In women, flank liposuction aims to achieve an hourglass figure. In men, the approach is slightly different; the primary goal is to obtain a V-shaped body.

It is generally combined with 360 Liposuction. This means fat from the anterior abdominal wall and back region is also removed during the surgery. Furthermore, if there is skin sagging, it is performed in conjunction with a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty). The technique used is usually the Vaser method, as it allows for fine sculpting and precise work.

Vaser Liposuction (Ultrasonic)

Technology: Sound Waves (Ultrasound) It is the most popular method among liposuction techniques. The acronym stands for “Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance.” We perform body contouring surgeries using this technique based on the patient’s specific needs.

How it Works: Its basic logic is simple. It breaks down fat tissues using high-frequency sound waves. While doing this, it does not damage blood vessels and nerves. It liquefies the fat tissues, after which excess fat is removed from the body using fine cannulas. Thanks to its precision, it clearly reveals abdominal muscles (high definition). The results are particularly satisfying for men.

Advantages:

  • It is ideal for patients with a high volume of fat tissue.
  • It is used in cases requiring very precise sculpting.
  • Since it causes less damage to the surrounding tissues, the recovery time is shorter and more comfortable compared to the classic technique.

Love Handle Liposuction in Turkey

Laser Liposuction in Turkey

(Laser Lipolysis)

Technology: Thermal Energy (Laser) Its fundamental principle is to melt fat tissues using the heat of laser light. You may encounter this method online under names such as SmartLipo or SlimLipo.

How it Works: It disrupts the membranes of fat cells and liquefies the fat tissue. Subsequently, the liquefied fat is extracted from the body using fine cannulas. We perform this by inserting a thin fiber that emits laser light into the body. This technique also stimulates collagen production. Therefore, skin sagging may be minimized after liposuction.

Best For: It is particularly effective in sensitive areas such as the double chin (submental), underarms, and inner knees. While it may prolong the procedure time in very high-volume fat removal surgeries, it is highly suitable for precise contouring and sculpting.

Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL)

Technology: Mechanical Vibration The fundamental logic of the system is to reduce the physical exertion required from the surgeon.

How it Works: The tip of the cannula features a mechanism that vibrates and oscillates back and forth. This mechanical movement facilitates the breakdown of fat cells, significantly reducing the surgeon’s physical fatigue.

Best For: It is highly effective in secondary (revision) liposuction surgeries and in the removal of fibrous (hardened) fat tissues. It is used for patients with excessive fat or dense tissue structures. It shortens the operation time by breaking down fat more rapidly.

Renuvion (J-Plasma)

Technology: Helium Plasma + Radiofrequency (RF) This is not a standalone fat removal technique. It is primarily a procedure used to tighten the skin following liposuction.

How it Works: Helium gas, energized by radiofrequency, is delivered beneath the skin. This stimulates the subdermal fibers (septae), causing immediate contraction. This results in skin tightening. It firmly adheres the skin to the underlying muscular tissues, creating a tighter body profile. This is referred to as the “Shrink Wrap” Effect.

Best For: It is ideal for patients with skin laxity who do not wish to undergo a full Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty). It is frequently requested postpartum (after pregnancy) and is also suitable for patients who have lost significant weight (post-bariatric) and have loose skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fat removal procedure known as liposuction is, of course, performed by Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgeons. Do not have this procedure performed by a doctor from another branch. It is a technically demanding surgery. Regardless of the certificates held by individuals calling themselves “medical aestheticians,” if they are not a board-certified Plastic Surgeon, you should stay away. These skills cannot be learned through short courses. Therefore, do not undergo surgery without consulting a qualified Aesthetic Surgeon.

Fat removal has no inherent harm. If no complications occur during the surgery, the procedure is completed without issues in expert hands. There is no standard risk of death. Of course, extremely rare instances (one in a million), such as severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) or body resistance issues, can occur, just as with any medical procedure. However, in all the years of performing surgeries in Turkey and globally, we have neither experienced nor heard of such a fatality in our practice.

This procedure is not like dermal fillers; meaning, it does not require repetition every 8 months. Areas treated with Liposuction do not require re-operation. However, it is important to note that a certain amount of fat tissue must remain in the treated area for the body’s physiological needs. While some fat accumulation can occur in that area again, it will never return to its pre-operative state. Liposuction prices vary, but performing Liposuction again on a previously treated area is medically possible. This can be done to combat new fat accumulation. Naturally, the patient must take care of themselves after surgery. Staying away from junk food prevents re-accumulation.

Liposuction is an aesthetic surgical procedure performed to remove excess fat from the body. The amount of slimming achieved with liposuction can vary depending on several factors:

  • Amount of Fat Removed: The volume of fat removed directly affects the degree of slimming. However, for safety reasons, there is a limit to how much fat can be removed at one time. Generally, removing up to 5 liters of fat in a single operation is considered acceptable.

  • Size and Number of Treated Areas: Liposuction can be applied to various body parts such as the abdomen, hips, legs, arms, and back. The size and number of these areas affect the visibility of the results.

  • Individual Factors: Every individual’s body structure, fat distribution, and skin elasticity are different. These factors influence the degree of slimming obtained after liposuction.

  • Realistic Expectations: Liposuction should not be viewed as a weight-loss method. This procedure targets stubborn fat in specific areas and aims to achieve a more contoured body shape, but it does not cause general weight loss.

  • Post-Op Lifestyle: Healthy eating and regular exercise after liposuction are crucial for maintaining results. Positive lifestyle changes help make the slimming achieved with liposuction more prominent and permanent.

  • Recovery Process: The reduction of swelling and bruising after surgery may take a few weeks. Final results are generally seen within a few months.

Liposuction is an effective method for correcting body contours by reducing fat in specific areas, but individual results vary. Therefore, if you are considering liposuction, it is important to have a detailed evaluation with an experienced plastic surgeon to discuss your expectations and possible outcomes.

Massage and special care after liposuction are crucial for resolving edema faster and ensuring results look smoother and more natural. Correct practices during this period speed up recovery and reduce the risk of complications.

Post-Liposuction Massage

1. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Massage

  • This is the most recommended method.

  • It helps expel edema and fluid accumulation from the body after surgery.

  • It accelerates lymph circulation and reduces swelling.

  • It is usually started after the 1st week, with doctor approval.

2. Massage with Gentle Touches

  • Deep or high-pressure massage must strictly be avoided in the first few weeks.

  • Soft, circular movements can support edema relief.

3. Massage Frequency

  • Initially, 2–3 sessions per week may be required, reducing to once a week in later stages.

  • It is recommended to be performed by a professional physiotherapist or medical massage specialist.

Special Care Recommendations

  • Use of Compression Garment (Corset): Helps reduce swelling and allows new body contours to settle. It should generally be worn regularly for 4–6 weeks.

  • Skin Care: Moisturizing creams and natural oils (e.g., Aloe Vera, Vitamin E oil) can be used after the first few weeks with doctor approval. This supports faster skin recovery and maintains elasticity.

  • Scar Care: Silicone-based scar creams or sheets can be used to make post-op scars less visible. Protecting scars from the sun is vital, as sunlight can darken them.

  • Healthy Living: Adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, and plenty of water consumption accelerate the healing process. Smoking and alcohol negatively affect healing and should be avoided if possible.

What to Avoid

  • Hard massages and vacuum device applications should not be performed in the first weeks.

  • High-heat activities like saunas, Turkish baths, or hot baths can increase edema and should be avoided until the doctor gives permission.

  • If pain, bruising, or excessive sensitivity occurs during massage, it must be reported to the doctor immediately.

Summary: Lymphatic drainage massage, regular corset use, and proper scar/skin care after liposuction speed up recovery and ensure smoother results.

In some patients, dimpling, waviness, or irregularities may appear on the skin after liposuction. This is not always a complication; it usually stems from several causes:

Why Does It Happen?

  • Uneven Fat Removal: Removing too much fat in some areas and too little in others can lead to surface waves.

  • Poor Skin Elasticity: Especially with advancing age or loose skin, the skin may not fully retract after surgery.

  • Excessive Fat Removal: When too much fat is removed, subcutaneous support decreases, causing indentations.

  • Edema and Healing Process: Most waviness seen in the first few months is caused by edema and decreases over time.

When Does It Resolve?

  • The appearance usually improves within the first 3–6 months as edema subsides.

  • If waviness is permanent, it becomes more clearly noticeable after the 6th month.

Solution Methods

  • Compression Garment Use: Regular use helps the skin settle evenly.

  • Massage and Lymph Drainage: Increases blood circulation and can make the skin surface smoother.

  • Radio Frequency (RF), Laser, and Massage Devices: Can be used for skin tightening and firming.

  • Fat Injection (Lipofilling): One of the most effective methods for filling deep depressions.

  • Revision Liposuction: In rare cases, minor corrective surgeries can be performed to fix irregularities.

Summary: Dents or waviness on the skin after liposuction are usually caused by temporary edema, but if they become permanent, they can be corrected with medical aesthetic procedures or minor revisions.

On average, between 4-7 liters of fat are removed. This amount changes according to the patient’s height, weight, and age. However, more fat than necessary should never be removed. The complaints of patients coming to us for revision are usually in this direction. The patient insists, and the doctor cannot refuse, taking a risk by removing excessive fat tissue. This is both risky and does not always yield good aesthetic results. If there is a possibility of skin sagging, leaving some fat in that area may be the most logical approach. Therefore, following the amount prescribed by the doctor will be more advantageous for both your health and aesthetics.

The scar is extremely small and disappears within a few months. The size of the scar is comparable to a “freckle” on the face.

Liposuction alone is not a weight loss method. If it were, everyone would have surgery to get rid of all their excess weight :)). This is, of course, not feasible. However, the patient will definitely lose some weight after the surgery. Let’s not deny that. As mentioned, the amount of fat to be removed is determined beforehand. Therefore, before surgery, the areas to be treated are decided. There are no surprises after surgery. The operation is actually easy for the patient, and the results are quite satisfying.

Edema and swelling after liposuction are a completely normal and expected process seen in every patient. Since fat tissue is removed during surgery, the body reacts to this as a form of “trauma,” naturally leading to fluid accumulation (edema).

Why Do Edema and Swelling Occur?

  • Surgical Trauma: Blood vessels and tissues are affected while removing fat, leading to fluid accumulation.

  • Lymphatic System Impact: Lymph flow temporarily slows down, causing fluid retention in tissues.

  • Body’s Healing Response: The area swells as blood and healing cells are sent to the affected tissues.

The Process of Edema and Swelling

  • First 1–2 Weeks: Swelling is at its peak; bruising may accompany it.

  • 3rd–4th Week: Most of the swelling begins to subside; body lines slowly emerge.

  • 6th Week: Significant relief occurs; the person feels much more comfortable.

  • 3rd–6th Month: Almost all edema resolves, and permanent results begin to clarify.

Ways to Reduce Edema and Swelling

  • Wear Compression Garments: Wearing the corset/garment for the time recommended by the doctor (usually 4–6 weeks) significantly reduces edema.

  • Drink Plenty of Water: Consuming 2–2.5 liters of water daily speeds up the resolution of edema.

  • Reduce Salt: Salt causes fluid retention; salt consumption needs to be minimized in the first few weeks.

  • Light Walking: Increases circulation and supports lymph flow.

  • Avoid Smoking and Alcohol: Both impair blood circulation and delay healing.

  • Eat Healthy: High-fiber foods, fresh vegetables, and fruits help dissolve edema.

  • Lymphatic Drainage Massage (with Doctor Approval): When applied professionally, this massage can ensure much faster resolution of edema.

Summary: Edema and swelling after liposuction are temporary conditions and usually disappear to a large extent within 1–2 months. Being patient, following doctor recommendations, and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits make the process easier.

If you gain weight after liposuction, the fat cells in the treated areas do not largely return; however, the remaining fat cells can expand (hypertrophy). This can cause thickening in that area again. Additionally, the body may prefer untreated areas (e.g., back, hips, legs instead of the abdomen) for fat storage.

Summary: Weight gain can distort liposuction results, and body contours may become irregular again. Healthy eating and regular exercise are essential for a permanent and aesthetic result.

Does Liposuction Leave Scars? (Detailed)

Liposuction generally does not leave a noticeable scar because the procedure is performed through very small incisions (2–4 mm). These incisions are mostly made in natural body creases or hidden areas (e.g., bikini line, underarm).

Scars During the Healing Process

  • First weeks: Small incisions may appear red or pink.

  • After 2–3 months: Their color fades and approaches skin tone.

  • After 6–12 months: In most patients, scars fade enough to be unnoticeable.

Factors Affecting Scarring

  • Skin type and the individual’s healing process.

  • The technique used and the surgeon’s experience.

  • Post-operative care (creams, silicone tapes).

  • Sun protection (sunlight can darken scars).

Recommendations to Reduce Scars

  • Use scar creams or silicone gels/sheets prescribed by the doctor regularly.

  • Protect incisions from direct sunlight for the first 6 months.

  • Support skin healing with adequate water consumption and balanced nutrition.

  • Do not smoke; it can cause scars to darken and delay healing.

Summary: Liposuction scars are very small, indistinct, and usually fade within a few months. With proper care, they become almost invisible in most people.
