There are many patients that complain from large hips, whereas others think that their buttocks are too small. It is possible to address both problems through different techniques and surgeries. Every patient presents with a different deformity that they desire to correct. It is possible to lift the buttocks through fat transfer in some patients, whereas others require more extensive reconstruction with silicone implants to correct significant defects.

As with silicone breast implants, it is almost impossible for silicone buttock implants to rupture and they will last a lifetime. Implants that are developed for buttocks are generally more solid and less viscous. Buttock enhancement surgery makes it possible to reconstruct the buttocks or change the dress size to some extent. However, some patients make unrealistic requests. We try and inform our patients regarding the most appropriate and viable options.

Buttock Reduction Surgery

Buttock reduction is one of the more common cosmetic buttock surgeries. This operation is generally preferred by women with large hips. We observe that some patients request their buttocks to me made smaller, regardless of their own body shape. The first criteria in buttock reduction is to determine the final size of the buttocks according to the general structure of the body, including the abdomen and the legs. This means it is not always possible to reduce buttocks.

When planning a cosmetic buttock surgery, we determine the amount of reduction. It is possible to combine buttock surgeries with body contouring operations. It is possible to reduce overall body size by combining cosmetic leg, buttock and abdominal surgeries.

After Cosmetic Buttock Surgery

Care after cosmetic buttock surgery will depend on the procedure. After Fat Transfer Buttock Enhancement, the patient:

• needs to avoid showering for 2 days,
• must wear a surgical garment for 4-5 weeks,
• refrain from physical activity for 1 month, and
• protect the buttocks from physical trauma.

The patient is allowed to sit after the operation. However, they need to be mindful when sitting on their buttocks to prevent any damage to the operated site.

If the patient underwent buttock lift with the suturing technique, they can take off their surgical garment after only 2 weeks. They will still need to avoid taking a bath for 2 days.

Buttock Surgery Failures

Buttock surgeries will not fail due to technical reasons; however, it is possible for the patient to be dissatisfied with the outcome. One of the most common post-treatment complaints is that the buttock is smaller than expected. We find that the main problem here is that patients believe bigger is always better.

Using a larger silicone implant or injecting more fat will not always yield more aesthetic results. We like to take our patients’ opinions into consideration. It is possible to replace silicone implants with a bigger size. This second operation will be easier than the first, as there is already a ready surgical pouch.

Similarly, second or third rounds of fat injections can be applied to make the buttocks bigger. However, it is up to the surgeon’s discretion to decide whether these procedures are appropriate. We refrain from performing procedures that will disrupt the structure of the body.
